Image: Power Flames strides away
We did not own Power Flame as a racehorse. He was born in 1993 on Gestüt Idee, and raced in their colours. By Dashing Blade out of Pikante, Power was a half-brother to the Studs homebred German Derby winner Pik König, so he was always held in high regard. A flashy chestnut with a wonderful head and a talking eye, Power had is own ideas about racing though. None will know better than Champion Jockey Peter Schiergen, who was famously carried into a beer tent in Baden Baden by an uncontrolable Power Flame, who had bolted to the start and never stopped after - only at the Bar!
Gelded shortly after, Power´s rise to fame was nothing short of spectacular: He became Germany´s winningmost gelding in racing history, winning Group races galore, and his determinded never-say-die style and front-running fighting qualities made him a great public favorite.
Power retired in 2000 (after a winning return in a Group III-Race from a one-year-lay-off) due to a nagging injury, and we got the chance to give him a retirement-home thereafter.
He was my riding hack for an oh-so-short time, as a paddock accident finally claimed his life in august 2002. A most wonderful friend and valued family member, he is sorely missed.
His courage, will, heart, determination and kindness continues to stand for all the best qualities in a thoroughbred racehorse.
His wonderful eye is our " logo " on the front page.
